| The Annual Charity Pig
Roast Overview The Charity Pig
Roast, benefiting under-privileged children at Christmas, has been around
now for 20 years. Started by a bunch of RIVER RATS in 1984, and founders
Doug & Gail Hill, the Original Pig Roast was at Minnesota Bend, in the
middle of the Coosa River, The Charity Pig Roast has become an major annual
event for Northeast Alabama.
Originally, a "Pig Roast", the annual event
now includes everything from the standard Bar-B-Q to "Live Entertainment"
both Saturday night and Sunday. This year will mark the 2nd annual "Charity
Ride" for motorcycle riders, a fun event in itself, that brings additional
"Charity" revenue to the cause.
The Charity Pig Roast is one of very few
events that is a complete volunteer staffed event, with participants ranging
from business and professional people, to the average person who just want
to lend a hand.
For 18 years a small group
of people have been raising money to buy Christmas toys for the
under-privileged Children of Etowah County.
All of the Children who
receive benefits from the Charity are chosen through the Etowah County Board
of Education.
We are 99% Charity, 1%
cost, how many groups or Charity organizations can claim that.
